What Is Stored Up In Your Heart?

“A good man brings good things out of the good STORED UP in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil STORED UP in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of” - Luke 6:45 (NIV).

Are you likely to be surprised when you open a trash can and it smells awful? I reckon you are not very likely to be surprised because you quite expect it to smell bad. Right?

Or are you likely to be surprised when a drainage is opened and it smells bad? Not so much. Why's this? Because of the trash and filth that have been stored up in them overtime.

However, I think you're likely to be surprised if you open up your refrigerator, for instance, and find that it smells awful like the trash bin. Right? Why? Because you've stored up fresh consumables in there, so you don't expect it to smell bad.

Just as you'd expect a trash bin to smell bad (because of what's stored up in it), and your refrigerator to smell fresh (as long as there is power to keep it cool), so it is with us humans.

A good person thinks and speaks good things because that's what's stored up in his heart, so too a bad person thinks and speaks bad things according to what is stored up in his heart.



What is stored up in your heart?
"YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. THEREFORE BY THEIR FRUITS YOU WILL KNOW THEM." - Matthew 7:16-20 (NKJV).

In the same way that water or a mirror reflects the face, so do the things we do and say (our works, our fruits) express/reveal what is stored up in our heart.

Indeed, we will know what's stored up in your heart - whether it's good things or bad things - by your words and actions, as what you vomit is a function of what you have taken it. As we playfully say here in Naija (Nigeria) that you can't eat eba (cassava pudding) and vomit salad. For where that one dey happen? (that can't happen!).

Not only do what we do or say reveal what is stored up in our heart, but also HOW we do or say them.
Our conduct, deeds and words reflect and reveal what is stored up in our hearts...no wonder Scripture admonishes to "guard your heart with all diligence".

Store up good things in your heart
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is
lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy—think about such things" - Philippians 4:8 (NIV).

Scripture explicitly teaches how to store up good things in our hearts - by thinking good thoughts. Thoughts are indeed tangible resources in the spiritual realm. What we think of consistently overtime, take on flesh and become physically tangible.

We store up things in our hearts through our "receptors" - that is, our eyes and hears. The eyes and hears are our heart's channels of receiving information

So, from today, be deliberate about what you store up in your heart... whatever is noble...right....pure...lovely...admirable...excellent or
praiseworthy—think about/on such things.
