It could have been worse... but for His grace

It could have been worse...
You hear of the legalisation of same sex marriage and transsexuals being celebrated and honoured as heroes for "coming out" and you lament.
It could have been worse...
You read of how IS, Boko Haram, Al Shabab, Al Qaeda and the likes mercilessly kill thousands and render millions orphan, homeless and widowed on a regular basis and shiver.
It could have been worse...
You see government officials take oath in public glare to uphold the constitution and defend the people, yet when they get hold of power, they do everything but that, and you curse at them.
It could have been worse...
You hear and read of fathers sexually abusing their own daughters, and cringe in disgust...
Trust me when I say it could have been worse...
You read of mothers who sell their own babies for money, and you're stunned.
It really could have been worse...
You read of marriages collapsing after only a few months (or even weeks), and for reasons like "irreconcilable differences", and you're perplexed.
It really could have been worse...
You see young people rebel against their parents, negating their parents' counsel and going with their peers.
It could have been worse...
You hear of teenage mothers, impregnated by older men who are supposed to be guardians and think that's the worst.
It could have been worse...
You read of rich and famous people committing suicide due to depression, and you wonder.
It could have been worse...
Why it could have been worse? For "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9)...
But because "God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting life".
Since we have been "saved by grace through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8); we can "therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:10).
Take a moment and imagine what our world would have been like had Christ not given up His glory and gave himself as an atonement for our sin. Just take a moment and think about it.
I can't imagine where you and me would be now but for His sacrifice.
I could be heading a fierce terrorist sect, or you could be the kingpin of a human trafficking group, or a drug baron, or heroin addict, or have some incurable sexually transmitted infection worse than AIDS. Who knows? I can't imagine how grim things would have turned out #ButForHisGrace.
"But by the grace of God I am what I am..." 1 Corinthians 15:10.
I am taking this moment, not to complain, or make a request, or ask questions, but just to THANK you Lord for the ultimate sacrifice you made. Thank You, Jesus. I truly appreciate it. I'll remain Yours for all eternity! Because, it really could have been worse...
My plea to you reading this and you're yet to receive Christ into your heart and make Him your Lord is: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion" (Hebrews 3:15); open up your heart to God and let Him make His home there. Life takes on new meaning with God...
